This is a highly desirable antique red pottery bowl hand-made by Tonita Roybal (1892-1945) of the San Ildefonso Pueblo. Tonita Roybal is considered one of the finest Native American potters of all-time. She was a contemporary of Maria Martinez and they sometimes worked together. This rare red-on-red bowl features a water serpent or Avanyu. The bowl measures 4” x 6”. It is in good condition for its age with no chips or cracks. The bottom shows wear and there is some discoloration on the side of the bowl possibly due to aging (please see the photos).
