This is a fantastic San Ildefonso Pueblo blackware pot made by the great 20th Century potter, Carmelita Dunlap (1925-2000). This pot features some of the most detailed Native American designs of black on black, the style that Carmelita perfected, that we have seen. Her signature is on the bottom of the pottery. The pot is 6 ½” in diameter and 5 ½” tall. The condition is very good with a few tiny abrasions (see photos).
Carmelita Dunlap is considered one of the finest potters of the 20th century. Her work has been displayed at the Smithsonian Institution; she was invited to the White House to be honored for her pottery in 1974.
