A nicely carved and polished blackware pot by Mildred (Millie) Chavarria (b. 1946), a Native American potter from the Santa Clara Pueblo. The pottery bowl, which was likely made after 1986, features an Avanyu or Water Serpent design. Millie mixes her clay, hand coils, shapes, etches, fires, and polishes her pottery outdoors, which is the traditional way. The bowl measures 3 1/2" in diameter by 1 3/4” tall. It is signed on the bottom in the clay.
