This is a highly polished large red pottery jar from the Santa Clara Pueblo. The jar features an olla shape and the design of an avanyu which is also referred to as a water serpent. The pot is signed, but the bottom has worn, and the signature is only partially readable. The quality and size of this pot would indicate it was made by an accomplished potter. It measures 8” x 6”. The vase is in very good condition with a tiny fleabite surface chip near the rim.
