A very early Native American wedding vase made by Maria Martinez of the San Ildefonso Pueblo. This vase was likely created between the years of 1923 and 1925. This is the only period of time in which she signed her name Marie. This pot is almost 100 years old and shows a bit of age through some scuffs and scratches. The vase has a stone polished black finish contrasted with Native American designs of a different sheen of black. The vase measures 6" x 5" x 3.5".
Important Note About Authentication:
There were potters that signed Marie from different Pueblos. In particular, there was a Marie from Santa Clara. There may be no definitive way to prove which Marie made this vase. Please read below:
